About
ISARIC’s purpose is to prevent illness and deaths from infectious diseases outbreaks. We are a global federation of clinical research networks, providing a proficient, coordinated, and agile research response to outbreak-prone infectious diseases.
Based on member initiatives, global disease outbreaks, and the insights provided by ISARIC researchers around the world, ISARIC’s focus for 2024 and beyond will be on:
- increasing the agency (capability to act and achieve an outcome) of investigators based in Low and Middle Income Countries
- increasing the quality and impact of clinical research studies, including clinical trials
- improving clinical research agility and readiness
This will be achieved through an extensive programme of collaborative long- and short-term activities that will lead to greater access and support for our members and other stakeholders.

In developing countries, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation focuses on improving people’s health and giving them the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty.
Governance
The ISARIC Member Assembly (MA) is the highest governing body of the ISARIC federated network. The MA delegates executive authority to an Executive Board. Each Member has one vote in the MA.
The Executive Board is the highest executive body of the ISARIC network and is accountable to the MA. Each EB member is approved or reconfirmed by the MA after a 3-year term.
The Executive Director position is supported by a Global Support Centre (GSC). The GSC provides technical and administrative support.
