Eligibility
The course selection criteria will prioritise individuals in the early stages of their independent research careers who demonstrate exceptional potential for growth; they are ready to lead as a first time Principal Investigator. Candidates should have a strong academic background and a track record of impactful contributions to their field. A clear commitment to advancing scientific research in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs) is essential, along with a demonstrated intent to address local or global challenges through their work.
As part of the ILPS’ commitment to fostering diverse leadership in science, all participants in this cohort must be women. For future cohorts, priority will be given to women, particularly those from regions where women are underrepresented in science and leadership, such as in Low and Middle-Income Countries, but the programme will also be available to men.
Who should apply
This programme for 2025 – 2026 is tailored for mid-career women researchers who:
- Are ISARIC members based in LMICs
- Are at the beginning stages of an independent research career (e.g., postdoctoral researchers, junior faculty, or equivalent)
- Have completed a PhD or equivalent research qualification
- Are ready to lead as a Principal Investigator for the first time
- Their primary research interest is in epidemic-prone infectious diseases
- Show evidence of research excellence (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, successful projects, or contributions to competitive grants)
- Are committed to advancing research in LMICs and addressing local or global scientific or public health challenges.
We are especially interested in applicants who demonstrate:
- Leadership potential, with the ability to inspire others, collaborate effectively, and contribute to institutional capacity-building
- A vision for driving innovation and positive change in their scientific community
- A commitment to mentoring and fostering a strong research culture within their local or regional context.
Additional Requirements:
Applicants must have reliable internet access and appropriate equipment to participate fully. If this poses a challenge, please contact the programme team to explore potential accommodations
Gender and Regional Inclusion
This first cohort (2025–2026) is open exclusively to women researchers, reflecting the ongoing underrepresentation of women in scientific leadership, particularly in certain regions. While the programme is part of a broader commitment to gender equality and inclusion across the research landscape, this initial phase is designed to provide focused support and opportunity for women. The selection process will consider not only applicants’ academic profiles, but also their geographic, cultural, and social contexts to ensure fairness and equitable access.
