Genetic mechanisms of critical illness in Covid-19

Study, co-authored by our member Kenneth Bailie, looking at genetic variants linked to the development of life-threatening illness in patients with COVID-19.

Points of interest:

  • It brings understanding as to why some people are at a higher risk of a mild infection progressing into a life threatening condition.
  • It suggests an association between a genetic predictor of adiposity (obesity) and poor outcomes.
