We are pleased to announce the successful partners from the recent call for partners in the delivery and development of the ISARIC Clinical Characterisation Protocol (CCP).

In December 2024, an invitation was sent out to partner in the delivery and development of the ISARIC CCP. The ISARIC CCP is an observational study framework designed to rapidly characterise the clinical epidemiology and pathogenesis of epidemic prone infectious diseases to inform patient care and public health action. The aim of the partnership was for expansion of CCP implementation and for ISARIC Members to contribute to CCP development to enhance outbreak research readiness and response.

Although the initial call sought two partners, the exceptional quality of applications led to the selection of five. With the support of their respective institutions, these partners will contribute to ISARIC’s global strategy to expand the number and diversity of institutions approved and prepared to implement the CCP. This global effort will build on the momentum of local initiatives and support the ongoing development of study management tools, enhancing the quality and efficiency of CCP implementation.

Each selected institution will receive up to GBP 100,000 over a 36-month period.

Dr Effua Usuf, Clinical Epidemiologist, Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine said, “I am delighted to have been selected to collaborate with ISARIC colleagues to advance the expansion and development of the ISARIC Clinical Characterisation Protocol (CCP). This call appealed to me, as it aligns with my previous experience contributing data to the ISARIC COVID-19 clinical database and leading our Surveillance and Epidemic Preparedness platform, where I have recently established a fever surveillance project. I look forward to strengthening research readiness and epidemic response in The Gambia and beyond.”

Dr Laura Merson, Head of Data, ISARIC said, “We’re thrilled that the call attracted such strong global interest, with each application demonstrating a clear commitment to advancing collaborative research. We extend our warmest congratulations to the successful partners and look forward to working together to strengthen the CCP platform and generate lasting impact through global research partnerships.”
